Wednesday Night Twilight Racing - Resumes 20 October 2021

11am18 Oct 2021

Hello legendary paddlers and members of the CSKC

I hope that you are all well and enjoying the additional freedoms we are all given.

It has been a while since we all were allowed together as a club and so I am most excited to send you all this email.

Starting on Wednesday 20th, YES THIS COMMING WEDNESDAY, the Twilights Series will start at Swallow Rock Reserve, with small twist! At 5.30pm, Margaret Ryall will run a short stretching (paddling specific) session to help you get ready for the first race of the season. We will then kick off the races at 6.00pm. with two race groups, 5km and 10km.

PLEASE NOTE: No boat number means no time! AND the race finish line is near the beach, NOT at the red marker.

Due to lack of mobile reception, there will be a signing sheet, and you MUST be double vaccinated (or excepted) in accordance to the government regulations in order to participate in this race.

Furthermore, there will two official Paddle NSW races. The first one is the 8th and last Marathon race for the race which will be held at the Manly Warringah Kayak Club on Sunday 21st of November. You can find the details on the Paddle NSW page using this link: https://www.facebook.com/PaddleNSWMarathon/posts/2321255274676690

I encourage you all to participate and represent our club in this race. I also would recommend to inform you fellow club members if you are planning to attend so that we could organise car pooling to Narrabeen (don’t forget your passports!). The second race is the last race of Harbour Series on 4th of December in Pittwater. I will provide you with more info be sent our in our next email.

If you are not a member yet, make sure you join the club immediately and collect your club t-shirt and club hat/cap on Wednesday. If you do not know who to join or renew, please send me an email and I will send you the step by step instructions.

Finally, our AGM is coming up next month. I will provide you with the details in my next email. I encourage you all to join and get involved.

I hope to see you on Wednesday evening

This will be a self-timed event with the emphasis on getting on and off the water and out of the car park in a covid safe manner. Please keep in mind the 10k radius from swallow rock and do as Gladys says

Bay surf just got serious with wave measuring buoy.Transport for NSW advises that a wave measuring buoy was installed at the entrance to Port Hacking near Bundeena on Wednesday 30 June 2021 and will remain in place until Friday 1 October 2021.

The wave buoy, deployed off Gunya at the entrance to Port Hacking, has been deployed to measure waves entering the estuary. During that deployment NPWS Scientists will carry out a study of hydrodynamics and sediment transport by deploying temporary wave and current meters (small instruments underwater) around the sand shoals and in front of the beaches.

The wave buoy is anchored in position by a mooring apparatus. The apparatus includes a floating yellow buoy with a 10 meter weighted line anchored to the seabed. It will exhibit a flashing yellow light at night.

The apparatus will be removed from the water prior to 1st October 2021. Vessel operators are advised to navigate with care in the vicinity of the wave measuring device and mooring apparatus. Further information or any issues should be reported directly to the Transport for NSW Maritime information line on 13 12 36.

Hello wonderful members of the CSKC,

I hope that you are ok and managing the lockdown well.

Due to the extension of the lockdowns by another two weeks, the future of our Harbour Series race is now in doubt, however, the committee is meeting next week (virtually) and I will personally provide you with an update after the meeting.

In the meantime, please have look at this wonderful video message by our club president, Michael:

Please stay safe and ensure that you do continue to paddle while in lockdown and in accordance to the COVID Safety guidelines.

Sincerely,
